Palamas has been built since ancient times in an interfluvial country, formed by the ancient rivers Apidanos and Onochono and the present-day, as formed, large rivers Fersalitis and Kaletzis. The small town of Palamas is 300 years old and is located north-east of the city of Karditsa, 21 km away from it, on a road leading to Larissa and at an altitude of 95 metres.
Palamas Municipal Unit is located in the north-western part of the Karditsa Prefecture. It consists of the Local Apartments: Palamas, Agios Dimitrios, Vlochos, Koskina, Metamorphosis, Markos and Gorgovites. The Municipal Unit of Palamas is bordered to the north by the Prefecture of Trikala, to the east by the Municipal Unit of Filo, to the west by the Municipal Unit of Sellana and the Municipality of Kampos and to the south by the Municipality of Arni.
The former Municipality of Fyllo in the prefecture of Karditsa has created a unique space of its kind, which houses exhibits from the wider region of the Thessalian plain, which are related to the local agricultural, cultural and historical heritage. This is the Folklore – Agricultural Museum of Itea, which can be visited daily by hundreds of students from all over Greece.
